Professor Alexandre Blais’ research team has joined its expertise to the Quantum Systems Accelerator (QSA). This group of quantum information researchers led by Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (Berkeley Lab) was created with a contribution from the US Department of Energy (DOE) as part of a five-year, USD 115 million project. The announcement was made today.

Prof. Blais’ contribution is in theoretical physics, more specifically quantum electrodynamics in circuits, where he is a pioneer in the field.

“This is very good news for my research team, we are joining a network of laboratories that includes leaders in the field where we will be able to contribute in our own way to the development of computers with exceptional potential. This is an excellent opportunity for the students in my group to be part of this world-class network. This collaboration with the Quantum Systems Accelerator will allow us to be at the forefront of scientific progress in our field and I am very pleased to be able to take part in this,” said Alexandre Blais.

Prof. Blais’ team joins more than a dozen other research groups located in the United States : Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, Sandia National Laboratories, University of Colorado at Boulder, MIT Lincoln Laboratory, Caltech, Duke University, Harvard University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Tufts University, UC Berkeley, University of Maryland, University of New Mexico, University of Southern California, UT Austin.

“This new collaboration underpins Institut quantique’s leadership position as a major Canadian centre for quantum science. The expertise of Professor Blais’ research team will be supported by state-of-the-art equipment at IQ’s digital computation laboratories and the Quantum Fab Lab,” said Jean-Pierre Perreault, Vice-Rector, Research and Graduate Studies, Université de Sherbrooke. As a member of the Quantum Systems Accelerator team, UdeS is proud to be among the world’s elite in the race to develop the quantum systems of the future.”
